BASIL May 2021

The front cover of BASIL shows an HST image of the Sunflower Galaxy (Messier 63), which is well placed for observing in May and is featured in this month's BASIL.

Solar system information includes planetary observing data, observing Asteroid 4 (Vesta) and recent images of lunar craters from BAS member Andrew Grasemann.

Visible passes of the ISS are given for the month, with a total of 72 visible passes for May!

21 astronomical events and 21 observing targets for the month are listed.

May is a good month for observing the Virgo Galaxy Cluster and guidance on observing Makarian's chain of galaxies is given.

Featured observing targets are Messier 104 (the Sombrero Galaxy) and Messier 63 (the Sunflower Galaxy).
