BASIL November 2022

The front cover of BASIL shows an image of the recent (25 October 2022) partial solar eclipse, taken by David Bennett (BAS) at the Cyril Swindin Observatory in Failand.

Predicted solar activity, solar cycle progression, planetary observing notes, finder charts and rise / set times are reported for November.

Solar activity continues to increase with some G1 (minor) geomagnetic storm levels possible due to multiple, recurrent CH HSS (Coronal Hole High Speed Streams) influence - see page 4.

Constellation of the month is Taurus, which is well-placed for observing the constellation's stars and DSO (Deep Sky Objects), including the Pleiades Cluster, the Hyades Cluster and the Crab Nebula.

Visible transits of the ISS for November are listed.

21 observing targets for the month are provided, with more details given for M52 (Open Cluster in Cassiopeia), NGC 7662 (the Blue Snowball Planetary Nebula in Andromeda), M103 (Open Cluster in Cassiopeia) and M76 (the Little Dumbbell Planetary Nebula in Perseus).

Society News provides details of the 2022 programme of talks and a report on the observing of the partial solar eclipse on 25 October 2022, at the Society's Cyril Swindin Observatory in Failand.
