Solar cycle progression data continues to show a spike in sunspot numbers over the last few months - predicted numbers are given for the next 12 months, as solar activity is forecast to slowly increase.
September is a good month to observe Jupiter and the Great Red Spot - see the monthly planetary observing notes.
This month Neptune is at opposition and so will be visible throughout the night, within the Aquarius constellation and below one of the circlets in Pisces.
Visible passes of the ISS are given for September and 47 passes may be observed during the month.
24 astronomical events and 19 observing targets for the month are listed, with more observing details given for M15 in Pegasus, M71 in Sagitta and M27 (the Dumbbell Nebula) in Vulpecula.
Imaging examples and data are given for M15, the Globular Cluster in Pegasus.
