At the beginning of the 1970’s the Society embarked on an ambitious project to build the Failand Observatory. Whilst digging out the foundations for the observatory, it was claimed that some ancient scrolls were discovered. These were translated from old Brigstowelian by Alan Quirk and were published in the Societies Skywatch magazine over several issues.
The scrolls described an early tribe of man who worshipped the sky and embarked on construction of a temple to house the All Seeing Eye “Great Telescopum”. What was remarkable was that the characters described in the scrolls bore a remarkable similarity to members of the BAS, and the construction of the temple mirrored the efforts to build our observatory.
