Formal Talk by David Southwood – Some local puzzles in Cosmic Magnetism
Our President David Southwood will give his annual address to the Society.
David has spent much of his research career working in a field now known as Space Weather. His main interest is in magnetic fields and how field at the Sun and Earth interlink and cause disturbances that can even affect everyday activities on Earth. In a talk that he will keep as far as possible non-technical, he will describe some of his own research and its importance from understanding where to drill safely for oil and keeping our electrical grids working well to explaining the oscillating aurorae of Saturn.
