MON(Members Observing Night) : Telescope Surgery for new members
We will be holding a telescope surgery and observational session at Failand specifically for new members who would like assistance in setting up a telescope, finding targets or any other observational topic.
Suggest we go for the first suitable night from Monday 22nd to Thursday 25th of November.
We will look at the weather forecast on the Monday and pick the evening that is most favourable. The evening that is chosen will be posted here on this Event page at 10.00 am on Monday 22nd. If no evening is forecast to be clear but one is likely to be dry we can still go ahead as many issues can be worked through without a celestial target. The moon will be around so a partially cloudy sky will be OK.

Me and the wife will be coming 😊
I’ll be happy to come along and help out.
I can bring a scope as well, if needed.

I am definitely interested. Weather permitting 😁🔭
Hi All. It’s GO 😊 for tonight’s New Members Night. Here are the details:
Start time 7.30. Observatory open from 7.00 PM for a 7.30 start with an introduction and safety briefing.
Nearest Post Code BS8 3UR
Directions: Leave Bristol along the A370 and turn right at the park and ride onto the B3128 towards Clevedon. After about 3 km turn left at the Failand Traffic Lights onto the B3129. If you are not bringing a telescope please park your car in Hill Drive, a local road on your right about 200 metres from the traffic lights. The Observatory entrance is through a farm gate just past Hill Drive on the left coming from Bristol. Look out for a shining star at our entrance!
If bringing a telescope we will try and park you in the track to the observatory, space permitting.
Cold tonight so plenty of warm layers and a hot drink. Tea and coffee making available on-site but please bring a mug. We do have a portaloo on site.
Clear Skies.
I’m in!! Finally work has allowed me a breather so finally around again to start taking part of the Societies activities.
Good to hear you can make it Andres. Can you send me an email: observatory@bristolastrosoc.org.uk. I can then return you some details. Thanks. David
Thank you David John Ian and colleagues for a very helpful evening with beautiful skies
Best wishes
Andrés
The star sign at the entrance is so helpful.
