Official opening of the Starchair
Friday night is observing night – don’t miss this one!
The official opening of the Starchair will take place on Friday 12th January at our Cyril Swindin Observatory at Failand. This adds an exciting new experience for visitors to explore the night sky using powerful wide field 6” binoculars. Past chair Andy Stephens who kindly gifted the Starchair to the society will be present to cut the tape.
Weather permitting, there will be an opportunity to try out the Starchair and use our telescopes for general viewing. There will be a tented shelter for warm drinks and a chance to have a social chat and a short meeting.
Wrap up warm, bring a seat and mug to guarantee an enjoyable night.
Arrive any time after 18:30 in time for the opening ceremony scheduled for 19:15.
We are keen to see a good turnout so if you would like to come but don’t have transport or prefer not to drive then let us know and we will do our very best to organise a lift.
Don’t forget to fill out the brief form below to let us know you are coming. For those who would like a lift or can provide a lift please state this in the Comment box and include your post code and contact telephone number .

Where should I park?
Due to expected numbers please park in Hill Drive opposite our site unless you are delivering equipment. Drivers or passengers with mobility issues may park along the southern side of the drive.
