Allan McCarthy

The Federation of Astronomical Societies (FAS) recognises the importance of astronomy outreach and has recently established a new national award, the Graham Bryant Memorial Award, which celebrates significant contributions to the advancement of amateur astronomy by an individual not employed in the field of astronomy in a professional capacity.

Allan McCarthy has been the Outreach Coordinator for the Bristol Astronomical Society for 15 years and has led our astronomy outreach with the general public, schools, colleges, universities, scouts and girl guides groups, and many other local organisations.

I’m delighted to let you know that Allan has won the Graham Bryant Memorial Award, following consideration by the FAS Council in November.

On behalf of the BAS, many congratulations to Allan for winning this prestigious national astronomy award!

More information about Allan’s activities leading to winning this award will be published in the next edition of the FAS newsletter and in BASIL.

And the Winner is ……………… Dr Allan McCarthy!
