MON(Members Observing Night) : Occultation of Star by Asteroid Pallas

Speaker: David Bennett Institution: BAS

A Members Observing Night (MON) is an observational night dedicated to studying a specific object that is currently visible.  It can also be a training night concentrating on a specific observational technique, instrument or software.

The choice is yours so please make a suggestion and let us know what you are interested in doing?

To confirm you intend to come this night just leave a reply here or email:  observatory@bristolastrosoc.org.uk

GO/NOGO decision will not be posted for this event.

Asteroid Pallas will be occulting Star TYC 5240-00433-1 and our Cyril Swindin Observatory is predicted to be inside the track of the occultation.  It should happen about 10.30 BST and drop by around 0.7 of a magnitude.  It should be quite interesting to watch as both star and asteroid are around 9th magnitude and Pallas will approach and move away quite swiftly.

Weather forecast is cloudy but it hasn’t been reliable lately so will leave until 9.00 PM before checking the weather outside.  If you can see reasonable breaks in the cloud where you are then why not pop up to the observatory. We can use the NGT for a visual observation and the LX600 to record the event digitally.
