Astronomy is the study of the furthest reaches of the Universe, bringing deeper understanding of ourselves along the way. This public lecture describes how astronomy not only pushes the boundaries of our knowledge of the cosmos, but also how it connects to everyday life.
Emeritus Professor J.M. van der Hulst is a celebrated radio astronomer, with a long and successful career at the cutting edge of science and the technological advances that make the discoveries possible. Having been involved in development of the international Square Kilometre Array Observatory since 2000, he has witnessed the evolution of radio telescopes, the science they enable, and the effect they have on societies that invest in them.
Doors open at 17:45 with the lecture starting around 18:00. The lecture will last for about an hour. Please remember to bring your ticket, either electronically or printed, so we can check it at the door.
