Solar cycle progression data shows a spike in sunspot numbers over the last two months - predicted numbers are given for the next 12 months, as solar activity is forecast to slowly increase.

August is a good month to observe Jupiter and the Great Red Spot - see the monthly planetary observing notes.

Andrew Grasemann has imaged the 'X and V' lunar features and Andrew's image is shown on page 13.

Visible passes of the ISS and the Prospero satellite are given for August.

25 astronomical events and 18 observing targets for the month are listed, with more details given for the Cats Eye Nebula (NGC 6543), the Wild Duck Cluster (M11), M56 (globular cluster), M71 (globular cluster), and the Dumbell Nebula (M27).
