BASIL July 2022
The front cover of BASIL shows Prof David Southwood giving the BAS Annual Presidential Address last month. The talk had the theme of exploring the icy moons of Jupiter and David gave the audience a fascinating insight into the development, planning and opportunities of the ESA JUICE Mission.
Predicted solar activity, solar cycle progression, planetary observing notes, finder charts and rise / set times are reported for July.
Constellation of the month is Hercules, which is well placed for observing its stars and deep sky objects, including the magnificent globular cluster Messier 13.
Visible transits of the ISS during July are listed.
25 observing targets for the month are provided, with more details given for globular clusters M10, M12 and M14 (in Ophiuchus), open clusters M26 and M11 (in Scutum), and the Cats Eye Nebula, NGC 6543 (in Draco).
Society News provides details of the 2022 programme of talks and events from July to October and a summary report on the BAS Committee meeting held on 22 June 2022.
