BASIL November 2021
The front cover of BASIL is a photo of the BAS Failand Observatory, showing the recent refurbishment of the 18-inch NGT telescope roll-off shed (also see page 28).
Solar activity continues to be slightly higher than predicted values for this stage of the solar cycle - see pages 4 to 5.
November provides good opportunities for observing Jupiter and two meteor showers - the Northern Taurids and Leonids - see page 12.
Neptune ends it's retrograde motion at the end of the month and the planet is well placed for observation during the month (page 13).
Constellation of the month is Andromeda, with the constellation's star chart shown on page 17.
21 observing targets for November are listed, with further observing details for the following targets: NGC 7662 (Blue Snowball Nebula) and two open clusters in Cassiopeia (M52 and M103).
Members' astro images include the Eastern Veil Nebula and the Cygnus Wall, by Chris Lee.
We were very saddened to hear of the recent passing of BAS member Peter Lythgoe, and Society News remembers Peter.
